About This Drink
Vanilla Latte

The 7 Brew Vanilla Latte is the chain's most straightforward espresso drink - freshly pulled espresso, vanilla syrup, and steamed 2% milk, served hot, iced, or as a blended Chiller. A Medium (24oz) iced Vanilla Latte contains 260 calories, 35g of sugar, and 120mg of caffeine, and costs $5.50. Sizes run from a Kids 10oz at $3.00 (150 calories, 60mg caffeine) up to a Large 32oz at $6.50 (300 calories, 240mg caffeine from four shots).

While 7 Brew built its reputation on the wildly sweet "7 Originals" like the Blondie and Brunette, the Vanilla Latte exists for a different customer entirely. This Rogers, Arkansas-born drive-thru chain knows that not everyone wants hazelnut, caramel, and chocolate milk stacked on top of each other at 7am. The Vanilla Latte is the control group of the menu - the drink you order when you want to actually taste the espresso, or when you are introducing someone to 7 Brew who finds the Originals overwhelming.

Here is what separates it from the Originals mechanically: the Originals default to a half-and-half breve base, which is what gives them that heavy, dessert-like body. The Vanilla Latte defaults to 2% steamed milk instead. That single swap is why a Medium Vanilla Latte lands at 260 calories while a Medium Brunette climbs past 480. You are getting the same espresso pulls and the same house vanilla syrup, just without the cream weight behind it.

The Chiller version is the one people underestimate. It is the same recipe blended with ice into a frozen texture - closer to a coffee slush than a Frappuccino, since 7 Brew does not add ice cream mix to Chillers. On a July afternoon in the drive-thru line, that is the version worth ordering.

TASTE

What Does the 7 Brew Vanilla Latte Taste Like?

The first thing you notice on a hot Vanilla Latte is the aroma coming off the lid vent - warm steamed milk with a soft bakery-vanilla note underneath, not the sharp synthetic vanilla you get from cheap flavored creamers. It smells closer to vanilla custard than vanilla candle.

The first sip leads with milk. 7 Brew steams to a genuinely silky microfoam texture, so the entry is round and mouth-coating rather than thin. About a half second later the vanilla arrives - sweet but broad and mellow, sitting in the background instead of jumping at you. The espresso comes in last on the mid-palate, and this is where 7 Brew surprises people: their blend runs medium-dark with a cocoa-and-toasted-nut character, so you get a real coffee bite even through the sugar. There is a light roasty bitterness on the back of the tongue that keeps the drink from reading as dessert.

The finish is clean and short. Vanilla lingers for a few seconds, then fades, leaving a faint milk-chocolate impression. There is no cloying film on your teeth, which is the main complaint people level at the sweeter Originals.

Iced changes the balance. Cold mutes the vanilla by maybe 20 percent and pushes the espresso forward, so the iced version drinks noticeably more coffee-forward and slightly more bitter. The Chiller goes the other direction - blending aerates it, the vanilla reads sweeter, and it drinks like a vanilla coffee slush.

INGREDIENTS

What's Actually in the 7 Brew Vanilla Latte?

7 Brew Espresso Medium-dark roast blend pulled fresh per order. Kids gets 1 shot, Small and Medium get 2 shots, Large gets 4 shots
Vanilla Syrup Sweet cream-style vanilla, roughly 2 pumps Small, 3 pumps Medium, 4 pumps Large. Sugar-free vanilla is available at no charge
2% Milk The default base, steamed to microfoam for hot or poured cold over ice. This is the entire difference between a Latte and an Original, which uses half-and-half
Ice Standard for the iced version, blended into the drink for the Chiller version
Whipped Cream Not standard on a Vanilla Latte. Add-on only, and it adds roughly 50-80 calories depending on size

Ingredients may vary by location. Always confirm with your barista.

First Time?

How to Order the Vanilla Latte for the First Time

If this is your first 7 Brew visit and you are not sure whether the hype drinks are for you, the Vanilla Latte is the smartest first order. Get a Medium iced (24oz, $5.50, 260 calories, 120mg caffeine) and ask for one extra shot. That extra shot costs under a dollar, brings you to 180mg, and fixes the one legitimate complaint about this drink - that the Medium stretches two shots across a lot of milk.

If you already know you have a sweet tooth and you are choosing between this and the Originals, go with a Blondie or Brunette instead. The Vanilla Latte will taste plain by comparison. But if you drink your coffee to actually taste coffee, or you are cutting calories, this is the drink on the board that respects that.

Do not skip the hot version just because everyone in the drive-thru line is holding an iced cup. 7 Brew crews are genuinely good at steaming milk, and the hot Vanilla Latte has a texture the iced version simply cannot reproduce. In cold months it is the better order.

One ordering note: 7 Brew crew members chat with you at the window and will happily walk you through modifications. Say half-sweet if you want it, or ask for oat milk. Nothing on this drink costs extra except the additional espresso shot and alternative milks at some locations.

Pro tip: Don't be afraid to ask your brewista for recommendations — they love helping first-timers!

Best Time to Enjoy

The Vanilla Latte is built for weekday mornings. At 120mg of caffeine in a Small or Medium, it delivers a clean, non-jittery lift comparable to a strong mug of drip coffee, and the 9g of protein in a Medium from the 2% milk gives it slightly more staying power than a black coffee. Paired with something small to eat, it holds most people to lunch without a crash. Because caffeine has a half-life of roughly 5-6 hours, a Medium at 8am still leaves about 60mg in your system at 2pm - not enough to interfere with sleep. The Large is a different calculation. At 240mg, drinking one after 2pm can leave meaningful caffeine circulating at bedtime, so save the Large for early mornings or long drives.

I have tried basically every drink on the 7 Brew board and I keep coming back to the plain Vanilla Latte. Their espresso is genuinely good and this is the only drink that lets you taste it. I get a Medium iced with an extra shot every single morning and the crew at my location has it started before I hit the window. 260 calories and it actually tastes like coffee - the Originals are dessert, this is breakfast.

Solid vanilla latte and way better than the drive-thru chains near my office. Only knock is that the Small and Medium both have two shots, so paying an extra dollar for the Medium just gets you more milk. Get the Small if you want it to taste stronger or just add the extra shot to the Medium. The hot version is better than the iced in my opinion, the foam is really well done.

It is fine but a little boring for what 7 Brew is known for. I ordered it because I wanted something lighter and it delivered exactly that - sweet vanilla, decent espresso, nothing memorable. If you like the Blondie or the Sweet and Salty this will taste watered down to you. I did like that it did not leave that sugary coating in my mouth though. Probably a good everyday drink, just not an experience.

Copycat Recipe

How to Make the Vanilla Latte at Home

5 minutes
Ingredients
  • 2 shots (2oz) espresso, medium-dark roast - Lavazza Super Crema or Cafe Bustelo espresso ground work well for the cocoa-forward 7 Brew profile
  • 1.5 tbsp (about 3 pumps) Torani Vanilla Syrup, or Monin Vanilla for a slightly less sweet, more floral version
  • 8-10oz 2% milk
  • 1 cup ice for the iced version, or 1.5 cups for a blended Chiller
Instructions
1

Pull 2 shots of espresso into a heatproof glass. If you do not have a machine, brew 2oz of very strong Moka pot or AeroPress coffee at double strength

2

Add 1.5 tbsp Torani Vanilla Syrup directly to the hot espresso and stir for 10 seconds so the syrup fully dissolves - doing this before adding milk is what prevents the syrup from sinking

3

For hot: steam 8oz of 2% milk to 145-150F, aiming for glossy microfoam rather than stiff foam, then pour it into the espresso from about 3 inches up

4

For iced: fill a 24oz cup with ice, pour the sweetened espresso over it, then top with 10oz cold 2% milk and stir

5

For a Chiller: blend the sweetened espresso, 8oz milk, and 1.5 cups ice on high for 25-30 seconds until it reaches a slush texture

Lighter Version

Use sugar-free syrups and skip whipped cream to save 100-150 calories.

FAQ

Common Questions

How many calories are in a 7 Brew Vanilla Latte?
A 7 Brew Vanilla Latte ranges from 150 calories for a Kids 10oz to 300 calories for a Large 32oz. A Small 16oz has 180 calories, and the most commonly ordered Medium 24oz has 260 calories with 36g carbs, 35g sugar, 9g fat, and 9g protein. Nearly all of the calories come from two sources: the 2% steamed milk and the vanilla syrup. Ordering half-sweet cuts a Medium to roughly 215 calories, and switching to sugar-free vanilla syrup brings it down to about 130 calories while dropping sugar from 35g to around 12g.
How much caffeine is in a 7 Brew Vanilla Latte?
A 7 Brew Vanilla Latte contains 60mg of caffeine in the Kids size (1 espresso shot), 120mg in both the Small and Medium (2 shots each), and 240mg in the Large (4 shots). Because the Small and Medium have identical shot counts, upgrading from Small to Medium adds milk and volume but no additional caffeine. If you want more strength in a Medium, add an extra shot for roughly $0.75 to reach 180mg. For reference, the FDA considers 400mg per day safe for most healthy adults, so a Large uses about 60 percent of that limit in one drink.
What is the difference between the 7 Brew Vanilla Latte and the Blondie?
The Blondie is one of the 7 Originals and combines vanilla syrup plus caramel syrup over a half-and-half breve base, which makes it significantly richer and sweeter. The Vanilla Latte uses only vanilla syrup over 2% steamed milk, so it has no caramel layer and far less fat. A Medium Vanilla Latte is 260 calories with 9g fat, while a Medium Blondie runs well over 400 calories. If you like the Blondie but want a lighter version, order a Vanilla Latte with breve instead of 2% - you get the creamy body without the caramel sweetness.
Is the 7 Brew Vanilla Latte available hot?
Yes. The Vanilla Latte is one of the 7 Brew drinks offered in all three formats - hot, iced, and blended as a Chiller - at no price difference. The hot version is the best showcase for it because 7 Brew steams the 2% milk to a genuine microfoam, giving a silky texture the iced version cannot match. Iced pushes the espresso forward and mutes the vanilla slightly. The Chiller is blended with ice into a coffee-slush texture and does not contain ice cream mix, so it stays at similar calorie levels to the iced version.
Can you get a 7 Brew Vanilla Latte dairy-free?
Yes. Ask for almond milk, oat milk, or coconut milk in place of the default 2% and the drink becomes dairy-free - the espresso and vanilla syrup contain no dairy. Almond milk saves roughly 60-70 calories on a Medium; oat milk keeps calories similar to 2% but preserves a creamier mouthfeel and steams better for the hot version. Confirm at the window that the vanilla syrup being used is the standard one, since some seasonal cream-based syrups do contain dairy. The default recipe lists Milk as an allergen.
