About This Drink
Raspberry Truffle Macchiato

The 7 Brew Raspberry Truffle Macchiato is a layered espresso drink built with raspberry syrup, dark chocolate sauce, milk, and freshly pulled espresso, and it tastes like a chocolate-covered raspberry candy that learned how to wake you up. A Medium Iced runs 320 calories with 47g of sugar and 120mg of caffeine, while the Large Iced climbs to 360 calories and 240mg of caffeine from four espresso shots. Prices run $3.00 for the Kids 10oz, $4.50 for the Small 16oz, $5.50 for the Medium 24oz, and $6.50 for the Large 32oz.

At 7 Brew - the drive-thru-only chain that started in Rogers, Arkansas and now has hundreds of stands nationwide - macchiatos are built in a specific order rather than stirred together. The flavor syrups go in the bottom of the cup first, then ice and milk, and the espresso is poured over the top so it settles through the milk in visible ribbons. That is the whole point of a macchiato: the word means marked, and you are meant to see the espresso marking the milk. It also means your first few sips taste different from your last few unless you stir it, which is genuinely part of the fun with this one.

What separates the Raspberry Truffle from the chain famous 7 Originals is the base. The Originals like the Brunette and Blondie lean on half-and-half for a heavy breve mouthfeel, and the mochas use chocolate milk. The Raspberry Truffle Macchiato uses regular milk plus dark chocolate sauce, which keeps the raspberry bright instead of burying it under dairy fat. That is why the Small comes in at only 240 calories - lighter than most sweet-cream 7 Brew drinks of the same size - while still hitting the dessert note that makes people order it in the first place. It is available Hot, Iced, and as a Chiller (blended), and all three drink like completely different beverages.

Information for Raspberry Truffle Macchiato

Contains Milk
Milk is the only listed allergen, and it comes from both the dairy milk base and the dark chocolate sauce. Alt milk alone does not remove it.
Vegetarian
Suitable for lacto-vegetarians as ordered, no changes needed.
Not Vegan
The dark chocolate sauce contains dairy. For the closest vegan build, order espresso plus oat milk plus raspberry syrup and skip the chocolate sauce entirely.
Not Keto Friendly
A Medium carries 49g of carbs and 47g of sugar. Even half-sweet with sugar-free raspberry it lands well above keto range because of the chocolate sauce.
Nut-Free as Ordered
No nut ingredients in the standard build, but if you request almond milk the drink is no longer nut-free. Drive-thru blenders and pitchers are shared equipment.
No Gluten Ingredients
None of the standard ingredients contain gluten, though 7 Brew is not a certified gluten-free kitchen and cross-contact is possible.
Contains Caffeine
60mg Kids, 120mg Small and Medium, 240mg Large. Ask for decaf espresso to bring it to roughly 5-10mg total.
High Sugar
38g Kids, 41g Small, 47g Medium, 50g Large. The Large exceeds the American Heart Association daily added-sugar guidance for adults on its own.

TASTE

What Does the 7 Brew Raspberry Truffle Macchiato Taste Like?

The aroma hits before the first sip - dark cocoa first, then a sharp jammy raspberry note that smells closer to a fruit tart than to candy. Iced, the top layer of the cup is almost pure espresso, so sip one is bittersweet and roasty with just a whisper of chocolate coming up through it. Then the straw pulls from lower in the cup and the drink transforms: cold milk, cocoa, and raspberry arrive together in a soft, rounded wave.

Mid-drink is where the truffle comparison earns itself. The dark chocolate sauce is deeper and less milky than what 7 Brew uses in a standard mocha, so it reads as semisweet baking chocolate rather than hot cocoa. The raspberry is syrup-based, not fresh fruit, which means it is more seedless-jam than tart berry - closer to raspberry filling inside a boxed chocolate than to a fresh raspberry. Texture is smooth and medium-bodied, thinner than a breve, with a faint syrupy cling on the lips.

The finish is the most interesting part: cocoa fades first, raspberry lingers, and a light espresso bitterness cleans everything up so it does not turn cloying. Hot, the chocolate dominates and the raspberry softens into a warm preserves note. As a Chiller, the blended ice mutes the espresso and pushes it firmly into milkshake territory, which is the sweetest and most dessert-like of the three builds.

INGREDIENTS

What's Actually in the 7 Brew Raspberry Truffle Macchiato?

Espresso Freshly pulled shots - 1 shot Kids, 2 shots Small and Medium, 4 shots Large. Poured last so it layers over the milk.
Raspberry Syrup Sweetened seedless raspberry flavor syrup, roughly 1-3 pumps by size. Provides the jammy tartness and the pink tint at the bottom of the cup.
Dark Chocolate Sauce Thick cocoa-forward sauce, deeper and less milky than the chocolate milk used in 7 Brew mochas. Source of most of the fat in this drink.
Milk Standard 2 percent dairy milk is the default base rather than the half-and-half used in the 7 Originals - this is why it lists Milk as the only allergen.
Ice Cubed ice for the Iced build, blended into the drink for the Chiller version, omitted entirely for Hot.
Whipped Cream Optional topping added on request, typically adds roughly 50-80 calories depending on size.

Ingredients may vary by location. Always confirm with your barista.

First Time?

How to Order the Raspberry Truffle Macchiato for the First Time

Order a Medium Iced on your first visit. That is 24oz for $5.50 at 320 calories and 120mg of caffeine, and it is the size where the syrup-to-milk ratio is best calibrated - the Small can taste slightly syrup-heavy and the Large stretches the raspberry thin across 32 ounces.

Do not stir it right away. Take two sips unstirred to experience the layered macchiato as designed, note how espresso-forward it is, then stir and taste again. Those two versions of the same drink tell you exactly how you want to order it next time: if you loved the unstirred sips, add an extra shot next visit; if you loved the stirred version, you are already at your ideal build.

If you are coming from a sweeter coffee habit - frappuccinos, caramel drinks, chocolate milk-based mochas - order it standard. If you drink your coffee black or you generally find chain coffee drinks too sweet, order it half-sweet from the start. At 47g of sugar in a standard Medium, this is one of the sweeter macchiatos on the 7 Brew board, and half-sweet is the single most common modification regulars make. Save the Chiller for a hot afternoon when you want dessert, not caffeine.

Pro tip: Don't be afraid to ask your brewista for recommendations — they love helping first-timers!

Best Time to Enjoy

This is a mid-morning to early-afternoon drink. The Medium at 120mg of caffeine is a reasonable 10am pick-me-up, but the 47g of sugar means it functions more like a sweet snack than a plain coffee, so pair it with actual food if you want to avoid a mid-afternoon crash. Skip the Large after about 2pm unless you are on a night shift. At 240mg of caffeine, and with caffeine having a half-life of roughly 5 to 6 hours in most adults, a 3pm Large still leaves about 120mg in your system at 9pm - enough to measurably delay sleep onset for a lot of people.

I have been ordering the Raspberry Truffle Macchiato iced every Friday for about four months now and it has fully replaced my mocha habit. It genuinely tastes like the raspberry chocolate in a box of Valentine candy, but the espresso keeps it from being too much. Pro tip from the girl at my stand: stir it after the first two sips or you get a mouthful of straight espresso and then a mouthful of dessert.

Marcus Feldman1 month ago

Really solid drink and the dark chocolate sauce is noticeably better than the regular mocha chocolate - way less like hot cocoa mix. Only knock is that the Medium at 47g of sugar was too sweet for me straight up. Half-sweet with an extra shot is the correct order and now I get it twice a week. Also worth noting the hot version is much more chocolate-forward if you want the raspberry to be subtle.

Priya Raghunathan2 months ago

Good but not my thing. I was hoping for a tart real-raspberry flavor and this is definitely syrup raspberry - more jam than fruit. My husband loves it. If you like fruity chocolate you will be thrilled, but if you came from a fresh berry latte somewhere else you might find it artificial. The Chiller version tasted like a milkshake with a coffee rumor in it.

How to Make the Raspberry Truffle Macchiato at Home

5 minutes
Ingredients
  • 2 shots (2oz) freshly pulled espresso, or 2oz strong moka pot coffee
  • 1 tbsp (0.5oz) Torani Raspberry Syrup - Monin Raspberry also works and is slightly less candy-sweet
  • 1.5 tbsp Ghirardelli Black Label Chocolate Sauce or Monin Dark Chocolate Sauce (do not substitute Hersheys - too sweet and too thin)
  • 10oz cold 2 percent milk
  • 1.5 cups cubed ice
  • Optional: 2 tbsp whipped cream and 3-4 freeze-dried raspberries, crushed, for garnish
Instructions
1

Add the raspberry syrup and dark chocolate sauce to the bottom of a 16oz cup and stir them together with a spoon until the sauce loosens - about 15 seconds. Skipping this leaves a solid chocolate plug at the bottom.

2

Fill the cup about three quarters full with cubed ice.

3

Pour the cold milk over the ice, stopping about 1.5 inches from the rim to leave room for the espresso.

4

Pull your 2 shots of espresso fresh and immediately pour them slowly over the milk so they ribbon down through it - this is the macchiato marking and it is the whole visual.

5

Serve unstirred with a straw for the authentic layered experience, or stir for 5 seconds if you want every sip identical.

6

For the hot version, steam 10oz of milk to about 150F, combine with the syrup and sauce mixture, then top with the espresso. For a Chiller, blend everything with the ice for 20-25 seconds.

Lighter Version

Use sugar-free syrups and skip whipped cream to save 100-150 calories.

FAQ

Common Questions

How many calories are in a 7 Brew Raspberry Truffle Macchiato?
The 7 Brew Raspberry Truffle Macchiato ranges from 210 calories in the Kids 10oz to 360 calories in the Large 32oz. The Small 16oz has 240 calories, and the most commonly ordered Medium 24oz has 320 calories with 49g of carbs, 47g of sugar, 10g of fat, and 10g of protein. Most of those calories come from the dark chocolate sauce and the raspberry syrup, with the dairy milk supplying the fat and protein. Ordering it half-sweet cuts a Medium to roughly 235 calories, and swapping to almond milk saves another 50-70 calories.
How much caffeine is in a 7 Brew Raspberry Truffle Macchiato?
Caffeine comes entirely from espresso shots, so it tracks size: Kids has 60mg from 1 shot, Small has 120mg from 2 shots, Medium also has 120mg from 2 shots, and Large jumps to 240mg from 4 shots. Because the Small and Medium both use 2 shots, the Small is actually the more caffeinated drink per ounce (7.5mg per oz versus 5mg per oz for the Medium). If you want more punch without more sugar, add a shot for 60mg and about 5 calories. For reference, 240mg in a Large is roughly two and a half cups of drip coffee.
What does the 7 Brew Raspberry Truffle Macchiato taste like?
It tastes like a chocolate-covered raspberry candy with espresso running through it. The dark chocolate sauce reads as semisweet baking chocolate rather than milk cocoa, and the raspberry is a sweet seedless-jam flavor from syrup rather than fresh fruit, so it is more raspberry filling than tart berry. Because it is built as a layered macchiato with the espresso poured last, the first sips of an Iced one are strongly coffee-forward and the middle of the cup is where the chocolate and raspberry balance out. Stirring it evens everything out immediately.
Should I get the Raspberry Truffle Macchiato hot, iced, or as a Chiller?
Iced is the most popular and the most balanced - the cold milk keeps the raspberry crisp and you get the visible espresso layering. Hot pushes the dark chocolate forward and softens the raspberry into a warm preserves note, which makes it the best cold-weather pick and the best option if you think the Iced version gets diluted at the bottom. The Chiller (blended) is the sweetest and most dessert-like of the three; the ice mutes the espresso, so add an extra shot if you order it that way. All three cost the same at each size.
Can you get a 7 Brew Raspberry Truffle Macchiato dairy-free or sugar-free?
Not fully. You can swap the 2 percent milk for almond, oat, or coconut milk, but the dark chocolate sauce contains dairy, so the drink still carries the Milk allergen and is not safe for a true dairy allergy or a strict vegan diet. For a dairy-free approximation, ask for espresso, oat milk, and raspberry syrup only - a raspberry latte without the truffle half. On the sugar side, sugar-free raspberry syrup is usually available and removes roughly 12-18g of sugar from a Medium, but sugar-free chocolate sauce is generally not stocked, so a fully sugar-free or keto version is not possible.
