About This Drink
Tuxedo Mocha

The 7 Brew Tuxedo Mocha is an espresso mocha that layers dark chocolate sauce and white chocolate sauce over a chocolate milk base, producing a two-tone chocolate profile that fans describe as a melted black-and-white cookie with a shot of coffee running through it. A Medium (24oz) iced Tuxedo Mocha carries 380 calories, 58g of sugar, 14g of protein and 120mg of caffeine, while a Large (32oz) jumps to 480 calories and 240mg of caffeine from four espresso shots. Pricing runs $3.00 for the 10oz Kids size, $4.50 Small, $5.50 Medium and $6.50 Large.

The name comes from the pairing itself. At 7 Brew, "Tuxedo" is shorthand for the dark-chocolate-plus-white-chocolate combination, the same way the Brunette means hazelnut and caramel. It shows up across the menu in Chillers, freezes and shakes, but the Mocha version is where the combination makes the most sense, because mochas at this drive-thru-only chain out of Rogers, Arkansas are already built on a chocolate milk base rather than plain white milk. That means the chocolate is doing double duty - it is in the milk and in the sauce.

Here is how the crew actually builds it: espresso is pulled fresh to order, dark chocolate sauce and white chocolate sauce go into the cup, then chocolate milk is added and the whole thing is stirred and poured over ice, steamed for the hot version, or blended with ice for the Chiller. There is no powdered mix and no pre-batched mocha base. That build is why the Tuxedo tastes noticeably rounder and less bitter than a standard cafe mocha - the white chocolate sauce contributes cocoa butter and vanilla notes that soften the dark chocolate edge instead of competing with it. It is one of the easier mochas on the menu to hand to someone who says they do not really like coffee.

Information for Tuxedo Mocha

Contains Milk
Milk is the listed allergen at all four sizes - it comes from the chocolate milk base and the white chocolate sauce. Not safe for a milk allergy in the standard build.
Vegetarian
Suitable as-is. No meat or gelatin-based ingredients in any preparation.
Not Vegan (modifiable)
To get close, request oat or almond milk, dark chocolate sauce only, and no whipped cream. White chocolate sauce usually contains milk solids so it must be dropped.
Not Keto Friendly
Even a Kids size has 20g carbs and 20g sugar. A Medium has 59g carbs. There is no low-carb version of a chocolate-sauce mocha - keto drinkers should look at a sugar-free vanilla Original instead.
Gluten Free Ingredients
The espresso, chocolate milk and sauces contain no gluten ingredients, but 7 Brew does not certify against cross-contact in a shared drive-thru kitchen.
Nut Free
No nut ingredients in the standard build. If you request almond milk you are adding a tree nut, and blenders are shared across drinks that may contain nut syrups.
High Sugar
Medium 58g and Large 75g of sugar both exceed the American Heart Association daily added sugar guidance of 25g for women and 36g for men in a single drink. Half-sweet or the Small size are the practical fixes.
Good Protein for a Dessert Drink
14g protein in a Medium and 16g in a Large, thanks to the chocolate milk base - noticeably higher than a syrup-based blended drink of the same size.

"Can I get a Medium Tuxedo Mocha. Thank you!"

TASTE

What Does the 7 Brew Tuxedo Mocha Taste Like?

The first thing you get is aroma, not flavor - lift the lid on a hot Tuxedo Mocha and it smells like a warm brownie tray, with a faint buttery vanilla note sitting on top from the white chocolate. The first sip leads with dark chocolate: deep, slightly roasty, closer to a 60% baking chocolate than a candy bar. It arrives before the coffee does.

Mid-sip is where the white chocolate takes over. It rounds everything out with a creamy, almost frosting-like sweetness and adds body, so the drink coats your mouth rather than running thin. This is also where the espresso finally shows up, cutting through the sweetness with a clean roasted bitterness that keeps the whole thing from tasting like a chocolate milk. The chocolate milk base means there is real dairy weight here - 14g of protein in a Medium tells you how much milk is in the cup.

The finish is the surprise. It fades cocoa-dry rather than syrup-sticky, with a light salt-free cocoa powder aftertaste and just a whisper of coffee bitterness on the back of the tongue. Iced, everything is sharper and the espresso is more prominent. Hot, the two chocolates melt together and read more like drinking hot cocoa that has been spiked with a shot. The Chiller version is the sweetest of the three by a clear margin - blending mutes the espresso and pushes the white chocolate forward into milkshake territory.

INGREDIENTS

What's Actually in the 7 Brew Tuxedo Mocha?

Fresh Espresso 1 shot Kids, 2 shots Small and Medium, 4 shots Large - pulled to order, never batched
Dark Chocolate Sauce Thick cocoa-forward sauce that provides the roasty, slightly bitter front end of the flavor
White Chocolate Sauce Cocoa butter and vanilla based sauce - adds body and the creamy mid-sip sweetness, no cocoa solids
Chocolate Milk Standard base for all 7 Brew mochas instead of plain milk - this is a second source of chocolate and the reason for the 14g protein in a Medium
Ice Poured over for Iced, blended in for the Chiller version, omitted entirely for Hot
Whipped Cream Optional topping - adds roughly 50-80 calories depending on how heavy the pour is

Ingredients may vary by location. Always confirm with your barista.

First Time?

How to Order the Tuxedo Mocha for the First Time

If this is your first Tuxedo Mocha, order a Small Iced ($4.50). The Small and the Medium both come with 2 espresso shots and 120mg of caffeine, so you lose nothing in strength - you just get 220 calories and 33g of sugar instead of 380 and 58g. That is the smart way to find out whether you like the dark plus white chocolate split before committing to a bigger cup.

If you already know you like sweet chocolate drinks, go hot. The hot version is where the two chocolates integrate best and where the espresso stays most present, and it is the closest thing on the menu to a really good spiked hot cocoa. If you are coming from a Frappuccino habit, get the Chiller instead, but expect it to be the sweetest of the three preparations by a wide margin.

Two orders regulars swear by: half-sweet with an extra shot, which turns it into a legitimately coffee-forward mocha at around 300 calories and 180mg of caffeine in a Medium, and a shake of cinnamon on top, which costs nothing and makes the dark chocolate read noticeably deeper. Skip the whipped cream on your first try so you can taste the actual sauce balance rather than the cream. And if the drink feels flat or one-note to you, the fix is more espresso, not more chocolate.

Similar flavored espresso drink
How to Order

Order the closest equivalent and ask for matching syrups.

Key Difference

Roughly 80 percent similar. The flavor split is nearly identical, but Starbucks builds on plain milk while 7 Brew builds on chocolate milk, so the 7 Brew version tastes deeper and thicker with more protein.

Similar flavored drink
How to Order

Order the closest equivalent and ask for matching syrups.

Key Difference

About 85 percent similar in flavor direction, though Dutch Bros mochas tend to run sweeter and thinner without the chocolate milk base.

7 Brew Medium (24oz): $5.50 = $0.229 per oz. Starbucks Grande (16oz) mocha with white mocha added: about $6.25 after the sauce modification = $0.391 per oz. You get 8oz more drink for about $0.75 less at 7 Brew.

Best Time to Enjoy

The Tuxedo Mocha is a mid-morning to early-afternoon drink. A Medium delivers 120mg of caffeine and 58g of sugar, which is a fast lift followed by a real crash if you drink it on an empty stomach - pair it with something with protein or fat if it is standing in for breakfast. The 14g of protein in a Medium takes a little of that edge off compared to a purely syrup-based blended drink, but it is still a lot of sugar at once. For a 2pm slump, the Small Iced is the better call: same 120mg of caffeine, 145 fewer calories, and it will not sit heavy for the rest of the afternoon. Caffeine has a half-life of roughly five to six hours, so a Large with 240mg after about 3pm means meaningful caffeine still circulating at bedtime. If you want a Tuxedo Mocha in the evening, ask for it decaf - the chocolate build is what people actually crave here, and it holds up completely without the espresso.

I have worked my way through most of the 7 Brew mocha lineup and the Tuxedo is the one I keep coming back to. The white chocolate keeps the dark chocolate from getting bitter and the whole thing tastes like a melted black and white cookie. I get a Small iced with an extra shot - 180mg of caffeine, only 220ish calories, and it still tastes like dessert. Hot version in the winter is unreal.

Brooke Vandenberg1 month ago

Really good, especially hot. My only note is that the Medium Chiller was too sweet for me at 58g of sugar - I could feel it. Switched to half-sweet iced on my second visit and it was almost perfect, way more coffee coming through. If you like a stronger espresso flavor definitely order it half-sweet from the start or you will be chugging water after.

Tyler Okonkwo3 months ago

It is well made, I just do not think it tastes that different from a regular mocha with an extra pump of white chocolate. The two chocolates kind of blur together for me instead of staying distinct. My wife loves it. If you want a chocolate drink with a bigger personality I would go Brunette for the hazelnut instead. Not bad at all, just not a standout in my book.

Copycat Recipe

How to Make the Tuxedo Mocha at Home

5 minutes
Ingredients
  • 2 shots espresso (or 3oz strong moka pot or Nespresso coffee)
  • 1 tbsp Ghirardelli Black Label Chocolate Sauce (or Torani Dark Chocolate Sauce)
  • 1 tbsp Torani White Chocolate Sauce (Monin White Chocolate also works and is slightly less sweet)
  • 10oz cold chocolate milk (whole milk chocolate milk gives the closest body)
  • Ice to fill a 24oz cup
  • Optional: whipped cream and a dusting of unsweetened cocoa powder
Instructions
1

Pull 2 shots of espresso directly into a warm mug or measuring cup.

2

Add both chocolate sauces to the hot espresso and stir for 20-30 seconds until fully dissolved. Doing this while the espresso is hot is essential - white chocolate sauce will not incorporate into cold milk and will sink.

3

Fill a 24oz cup with ice, then pour in the 10oz of chocolate milk.

4

Pour the espresso and chocolate mixture over the top and stir from the bottom up.

5

For a hot version, steam the chocolate milk to 150F and pour it into the espresso and sauce mixture instead. For a Chiller, blend everything with 1.5 cups of ice for 20 seconds.

6

Top with whipped cream and a light cocoa dusting if you want the full drive-thru presentation.

Lighter Version

Use sugar-free syrups and skip whipped cream to save 100-150 calories.

FAQ

Common Questions

How many calories are in a 7 Brew Tuxedo Mocha?
A 7 Brew Tuxedo Mocha ranges from 140 calories in the 10oz Kids size to 480 calories in the 32oz Large. The 16oz Small has 220 calories, and the popular 24oz Medium has 380 calories with 59g carbs, 58g sugar, 11g fat and 14g protein. The calories come almost entirely from three places: the chocolate milk base, the dark chocolate sauce and the white chocolate sauce. Espresso itself contributes about 5 calories per shot. To cut calories, order half-sweet (roughly 300 calories for a Medium), size down to a Small, or swap chocolate milk for almond milk.
How much caffeine is in a 7 Brew Tuxedo Mocha?
Caffeine depends on shot count, not size alone. The Kids size gets 1 shot for 60mg, the Small gets 2 shots for 120mg, the Medium also gets 2 shots for 120mg, and the Large gets 4 shots for 240mg. That means a Small and a Medium have identical caffeine - the Medium just has more milk and chocolate. Each extra shot you add is another 60mg. For reference, 240mg in a Large is roughly equal to two and a half standard 8oz cups of drip coffee and sits under the 400mg daily limit the FDA cites for healthy adults.
What is in a 7 Brew Tuxedo Mocha?
A Tuxedo Mocha is fresh espresso, dark chocolate sauce, white chocolate sauce and a chocolate milk base, served hot, iced, or blended as a Chiller. Tuxedo is the 7 Brew name for the dark chocolate plus white chocolate combination, the same way Brunette means hazelnut and caramel. Unlike many chains, 7 Brew mochas use chocolate milk rather than plain milk as the base, which is why the chocolate flavor is layered and the protein content is relatively high at 14g in a Medium. Whipped cream is optional and adds roughly 50-80 calories.
Is the Tuxedo Mocha sweet? Which version is least sweet?
Yes, it is a sweet drink - a Medium carries 58g of sugar and a Large carries 75g. Ranked from least to most sweet: Hot is the most balanced because steaming keeps the espresso bitterness intact, Iced is close behind with a sharper coffee edge, and the Chiller is clearly the sweetest because blending mutes the espresso and pushes the white chocolate forward. If sweetness is your concern, order it hot and half-sweet with an extra shot. That combination lands around 300 calories with 180mg caffeine in a Medium and lets the dark chocolate taste like actual cocoa.
Can you get a dairy-free or sugar-free Tuxedo Mocha at 7 Brew?
You can get close on both, but not perfectly. For dairy-free, ask for almond, oat, or coconut milk in place of the chocolate milk - however, the white chocolate sauce contains milk ingredients at most locations, so a fully dairy-free version means dropping the white chocolate and building it with dark chocolate sauce only. For lower sugar, 7 Brew carries sugar-free syrups, but chocolate sauces are typically not sugar-free, so the most effective low-sugar order is a Small, half-sweet, with an extra espresso shot - roughly 22g of sugar instead of 33g. Milk is the listed allergen at every size.
