About This Drink
Smooth 7

The Smooth 7 is 7 Brew's Irish cream and white chocolate breve - one of the seven signature drinks (the "7 Originals") that the Arkansas-born, drive-thru-only chain built its reputation on. It combines freshly pulled espresso with Irish cream syrup and white chocolate sauce over a half-and-half base, and it lands between 180 calories (Kids, 10oz) and 600 calories (Large, 32oz), with a Medium 24oz coming in at 480 calories, 27g of sugar, and 120mg of caffeine. Prices run $3.25 for Kids, $4.75 Small, $5.75 Medium, and $6.75 Large.

What separates the Smooth 7 from a standard latte is the base. Like the Blondie and Sweet & Salty, it is built on half-and-half rather than milk - a true breve - which is why the fat content is so high relative to the sugar (a Medium carries 30g of fat versus 27g of sugar). That half-and-half is what gives the drink its name: instead of the thin, slightly acidic finish you get from 2% milk, the espresso is wrapped in dairy fat that rounds off every sharp edge. Nothing in the cup bites back.

The flavor pairing is deliberately dessert-adjacent but not chocolate-forward. Irish cream syrup brings vanilla, sweet cream, and a faint whiskey-cask warmth (it is entirely non-alcoholic - it is flavoring syrup, not liqueur), while white chocolate sauce adds cocoa butter richness and a milky sweetness that fills in the gaps. Together they read like a coffee version of a cannoli or a vanilla custard. It is available Hot, Iced, or as a Chiller (blended, frozen, milkshake-thick), and the Iced Medium is by far the most commonly ordered version at the window. For anyone who finds the Brunette too nutty and the Mocha too chocolatey, the Smooth 7 is the middle path - and it is one of the few 7 Brew Originals that works equally well as a morning drink and an after-dinner treat.

Information for Smooth 7

Contains Milk
Half-and-half base plus dairy-derived white chocolate sauce. This is the primary allergen and cannot be fully removed unless you swap to an alt milk and skip the white chocolate sauce.
Vegetarian
Suitable as ordered - no meat or gelatin-based ingredients.
Not Vegan
Make it closer to vegan by requesting oat or almond milk in place of half-and-half and skipping the white chocolate sauce, then adding an extra pump of Irish cream syrup for flavor. Confirm syrup ingredients with your location.
Nut-Free
No nuts in the standard build, unlike the Brunette which uses hazelnut. If you order it with almond milk, that changes - specify oat or coconut milk if you have a tree nut allergy.
Gluten-Free Ingredients
No gluten-containing ingredients in the standard recipe, though 7 Brew is not a certified gluten-free facility and shared equipment is used.
Alcohol-Free
Irish cream is a flavoring syrup only. Zero alcohol content, so it is fine for pregnancy and for the Kids size.
Keto-Modifiable
Sugar-free Irish cream syrup plus no white chocolate sauce on the half-and-half base brings a Medium to roughly 5-7g net carbs.
High Fat
A Medium carries 30g fat and a Large 36g, almost entirely from the half-and-half. Ask for whole milk instead of breve to cut fat by roughly half without losing much sweetness.

TASTE

What Does the 7 Brew Smooth 7 Taste Like?

The first thing you notice is the aroma - warm vanilla and sweet cream, almost like the top of a creme brulee, with the espresso sitting underneath rather than on top. The initial sip is exactly what the name promises: soft, round, and thick on the tongue thanks to the half-and-half. There is no acidic snap at the front, which is unusual for an espresso drink.

Mid-sip the Irish cream steps forward. It reads as vanilla bean plus a whisper of caramelized sugar and that faint oaky warmth people associate with Baileys, though there is no alcohol involved. Right behind it the white chocolate arrives - not sharp or sugary like white chocolate chips, but buttery and milky, the way cocoa butter melts. This is where the drink gets its dessert quality.

The finish is where the espresso finally makes itself known, a gentle roasted bitterness that cuts through the dairy fat and keeps the whole thing from becoming cloying. It lingers for a few seconds as toasted sugar and cream. Texture-wise, Iced is silky and coats the mouth; Hot is noticeably richer and the Irish cream becomes more pronounced as the syrup warms; the Chiller is the most dessert-like, closer to a coffee milkshake with a soft-serve consistency.

Sweetness level is moderate for 7 Brew - a Medium at 27g of sugar is meaningfully less sweet than most of the shakes and smoothies on the menu. If you have a low sugar tolerance, half-sweet still tastes complete because the half-and-half carries so much flavor on its own.

INGREDIENTS

What's Actually in the 7 Brew Smooth 7?

Espresso 1 shot Kids, 2 shots Small and Medium, 4 shots Large - pulled fresh to order, medium roast with chocolate and nut notes
Half-and-Half Equal-parts whole milk and light cream, poured as the primary liquid instead of milk - this is what makes it a breve and accounts for most of the fat (30g in a Medium)
Irish Cream Syrup Non-alcoholic flavoring syrup with vanilla, sweet cream, and a light whiskey-cask note - roughly 2 pumps Small, 3 Medium, 4 Large
White Chocolate Sauce Thick cocoa-butter-based sauce (not a thin syrup) that adds body as well as sweetness - it does not fully dissolve in iced drinks unless stirred
Ice Standard for Iced; blended into the drink for the Chiller version, which is why the Chiller tastes slightly less sweet as it melts

Ingredients may vary by location. Always confirm with your barista.

First Time?

How to Order the Smooth 7 for the First Time

If this is your first Smooth 7, order the Iced Medium 24oz at $5.75. It is the version most regulars drink, it costs a dollar more than the Small for eight extra ounces with the exact same 120mg of caffeine, and iced is where the Irish cream and white chocolate balance sits most evenly.

Two things to know before you pull up to the window. First, this is a breve - it is made with half-and-half, not milk, so it is genuinely rich. A Medium at 30g of fat drinks more like a small dessert than a coffee, and plenty of first-timers do not finish a Large. If you normally order skim or almond milk lattes, ask for whole milk instead of breve on your first try and step up later. Second, ask them to give it a good stir. White chocolate sauce is thick and tends to settle toward the bottom of an iced cup, which makes your last few sips much sweeter than your first.

If you already know you prefer coffee-forward drinks, add one extra shot of espresso for 60mg more caffeine and almost no calories - it is the cheapest and most effective way to dial back the sweetness. And if you want the dessert experience instead, get it as a Chiller, which blends into a thick coffee-milkshake texture that is genuinely excellent in summer.

Pro tip: Don't be afraid to ask your brewista for recommendations — they love helping first-timers!

How to Order

Order a Grande Iced White Chocolate Mocha and ask for breve (half-and-half) instead of 2% milk. Add 1 pump of Irish cream syrup if your store has it - Irish cream syrup is a seasonal holiday item at Starbucks and is not stocked year round. Off-season, substitute 1 pump of toffee nut or vanilla for a similar warm-cream note.

Key Difference

7 Brew uses a breve (half-and-half) base while Starbucks uses 2% milk by default. 7 Brew is typically creamier and sweeter.

Similar flavored drink
How to Order

Ask for a Medium Iced Breve with Irish cream and white chocolate. Dutch Bros carries Irish cream as a standard year-round flavor and breve is a listed base, so this is the closest true match available anywhere. Request 3 pumps total split between the two flavors to match 7 Brew sweetness.

Key Difference

Dutch Bros tends to run slightly sweeter. Both are drive-thru only chains with a similar vibe.

7 Brew Large 32oz: $6.75 ($0.21 per oz) vs Starbucks Venti Iced White Chocolate Mocha 24oz: roughly $6.45 plus about $0.80 for breve and syrup add-ons, or about $7.25 ($0.30 per oz). The 7 Brew Large gives you 8 more ounces for about 50 cents less.

Best Time to Enjoy

The Smooth 7 works best mid-morning, roughly 9am to 11am, or as an early afternoon pick-me-up. With 120mg of caffeine in a Small or Medium it is a moderate dose - about the same as a standard 12oz drip coffee - so a Medium at 10am will clear your system well before bedtime. The Large at 240mg is a different story: because caffeine has a half-life of about five hours, a Large after 3pm will still have roughly 120mg circulating at 8pm. Because it is high in fat and moderate in sugar, this drink actually sits better with food than on an empty stomach. Paired with breakfast the half-and-half slows the caffeine absorption and you get a longer, steadier lift instead of a spike. Drinking a Medium breve on an empty stomach at 7am is the most common reason people report it feeling heavy.

I have worked my way through all seven Originals and the Smooth 7 is the one I keep coming back to. It tastes like a vanilla custard someone poured espresso into. The Irish cream is not fake or boozy tasting at all, just really creamy. I get an Iced Medium with an extra shot and it is perfect - the extra espresso keeps it from being too much like dessert.

Marcus Delgado1 month ago

Really solid drink and the half-and-half base makes a huge difference compared to the lattes I get elsewhere. My only note is that the white chocolate sauce settles at the bottom of my iced cup, so the last four or five sips are way sweeter than the first half. I have started asking them to give it an extra stir and that mostly fixes it.

Katie Bramlett2 months ago

Tastes good, no complaints on flavor, but the breve base is heavier than I expected. A Medium sat in my stomach like a milkshake and I could not finish it. If you want something lighter this is probably not the one - I switched to ordering it with oat milk and half-sweet and now it works for me. Just wish that was the default.

Copycat Recipe

How to Make the Smooth 7 at Home

5 minutes
Ingredients
  • 2 shots espresso (or 3oz strong moka pot or Aeropress coffee), chilled
  • 1 tbsp Torani White Chocolate Sauce (or Ghirardelli White Chocolate Flavored Sauce for a richer version)
  • 1.5 tbsp Torani Irish Cream Syrup (Monin Irish Cream also works and is slightly less sweet)
  • 6oz half-and-half
  • 1.5 cups ice
  • Optional: 1 tsp vanilla extract for extra aroma
Instructions
1

Pull 2 shots of espresso directly over the white chocolate sauce in the bottom of a mixing cup and stir for 15 seconds. The heat is what dissolves the cocoa butter sauce - if you add it to cold coffee it will clump and settle.

2

Stir in the Irish cream syrup until the mixture is uniform and slightly glossy.

3

Fill a 16oz glass with ice and pour the espresso mixture over it.

4

Top with 6oz of half-and-half and stir from the bottom up for a full 10 seconds so the sauce does not pool.

5

For a Chiller version, skip the ice in the glass and instead blend everything with 1.25 cups ice for 30 seconds until milkshake-thick.

Lighter Version

Use sugar-free syrups and skip whipped cream to save 100-150 calories.

FAQ

Common Questions

Does the 7 Brew Smooth 7 have alcohol in it?
No. The Smooth 7 contains zero alcohol. The Irish cream flavor comes from a non-alcoholic flavoring syrup that mimics the vanilla, sweet cream, and cask notes of Irish cream liqueur. It is safe for anyone avoiding alcohol, including pregnant customers and kids, and 7 Brew offers it in a 10oz Kids size for $3.25.
How many calories are in a 7 Brew Smooth 7?
A Smooth 7 ranges from 180 calories in the Kids 10oz to 600 calories in the Large 32oz. A Small 16oz has 280 calories, and the most popular Medium 24oz has 480 calories with 30g carbs, 27g sugar, 30g fat, and 10g protein. Most of those calories come from the half-and-half breve base rather than the syrups - which is why swapping to almond milk cuts a Medium roughly in half, down to around 230-260 calories.
How much caffeine is in a Smooth 7?
Caffeine follows the standard 7 Brew espresso pours: 60mg in the Kids size (1 shot), 120mg in both the Small and Medium (2 shots), and 240mg in the Large (4 shots). That means a Medium and a Small have identical caffeine, so upsizing from Small to Medium gets you 8 extra ounces of drink with no extra caffeine. Adding a shot adds 60mg.
What is the difference between the Smooth 7 and the Blondie?
Both are built on the same half-and-half breve base, but the flavors differ. The Blondie is vanilla plus caramel, which makes it sweeter and more buttery with a toffee finish. The Smooth 7 is Irish cream plus white chocolate, which is creamier and more custard-like with a subtle warm cask note instead of caramel. If you like caramel macchiatos, go Blondie. If you like vanilla lattes and white mochas, go Smooth 7.
Is the Smooth 7 keto or low carb?
Not as ordered. A Medium has 30g carbs and 27g sugar, which is well outside keto range. You can build a much lower-carb version by ordering it with sugar-free Irish cream syrup, skipping the white chocolate sauce entirely (it is not available sugar-free), and keeping the half-and-half base, which is naturally low in carbs and high in fat. That gets a Medium down to roughly 5-7g carbs while preserving most of the creamy texture.
