About This Drink
Banana Strawberry Smoothie

The 7 Brew Banana Strawberry Smoothie is a caffeine-free blended drink made with banana flavoring, strawberry puree, and 7 Brew proprietary ice cream mix, ranging from 210 calories in the 10oz Kids size to 740 calories in the 32oz Large. Prices run $3.75 for Kids, $5.25 Small, $6.25 Medium, and $7.25 Large. Because it contains zero milligrams of caffeine in every size, it is one of the few items on the 7 Brew menu that a parent can order for a kid without a second thought.

Here is the part most people get wrong: 7 Brew smoothies are not juice-bar smoothies. There is no fresh banana on the truck and no whole strawberries going into the blender. What you are actually getting is a fruit puree and flavoring base blended with a dairy ice cream mix - a thick, sweetened cream concentrate that behaves a lot like soft-serve base. That single ingredient is the reason Milk shows up as an allergen on every smoothie, the reason the texture is so plush, and the reason the sugar count climbs the way it does. Think fruit milkshake, not green-juice health drink, and the whole menu category suddenly makes sense.

That formulation is also what separates 7 Brew from its closest drive-thru rival. Dutch Bros smoothies are built on a dairy-free fruit blend and finish tart and sorbet-like. The 7 Brew version finishes creamy, round, and dessert-adjacent. Banana Strawberry is the flagship of the category for the same reason strawberry-banana dominates every smoothie menu in America - banana supplies body and mellow sweetness while strawberry supplies brightness and aroma. At 7 Brew the ice cream mix pushes that pairing straight into strawberry-banana milkshake territory, which is exactly why it is the smoothie people order when they are hesitant about the more adventurous tropical blends like Tiki Tango or Island Dream.

Information for Banana Strawberry Smoothie

Caffeine-Free
Confirmed 0mg in all four sizes. Safe for children, pregnancy, and evening ordering. Adding espresso would add 60mg per shot.
Contains Milk
The ice cream mix base is dairy. Milk is the only declared allergen. Substitute almond, oat, or coconut milk to remove it, accepting a thinner texture.
Vegetarian
Suitable as ordered - contains dairy but no meat or gelatin-based ingredients.
Not Vegan (as ordered)
Becomes plant-based only when the ice cream mix is swapped for a non-dairy milk and whipped cream is declined. Shared blender equipment applies.
Nut-Free (as ordered)
No nut ingredients in the standard build. Ordering it with almond milk obviously introduces tree nuts, and shared equipment handles nut milks daily.
Not Keto-Friendly
At 50g to 171g of carbohydrates, no modification makes this keto-compatible. The strawberry puree is pre-sweetened, so sugar-free syrups cannot get carbs low enough. Keto drinkers should look at a sugar-free breve instead.
Not Low-Sugar
47g to 160g of sugar depending on size. Half-sweet is the only meaningful reduction, cutting roughly 40 to 45 percent.
Kid-Approved
Zero caffeine, familiar strawberry-banana flavor, no coffee bitterness, and a properly portioned 10oz Kids cup at 210 calories for $3.75.

TASTE

What Does the 7 Brew Banana Strawberry Smoothie Taste Like?

The first thing that hits you is aroma, before the straw even reaches your mouth - a sweet, slightly candied strawberry smell layered over soft banana, closer to a strawberry milkshake at an old-school diner than to a bowl of fresh berries.

The opening sip leads with banana. It is a rounded, mellow, ripe-banana sweetness rather than a green or starchy one, and it coats the palate immediately because the ice cream mix carries it. About a second later the strawberry arrives on top, brighter and slightly tangy, cutting through the banana with a jammy quality that reads more like strawberry preserves than fresh-picked fruit. There is a faint seedy, pulpy texture from the puree that keeps it from tasting purely synthetic.

Mid-sip, the dairy takes over. The mouthfeel is genuinely thick - it takes real effort through a straw for the first third of the cup - with a velvety, soft-serve smoothness and small ice crystals that give it a light frost rather than a slushy crunch. The finish is where the sweetness announces itself. At 118g of sugar in a Medium, the tail end is unmistakably candy-sweet, with a lingering banana-cream note that sits on your tongue for a while.

As it melts over 15 to 20 minutes it thins into something closer to a drinkable strawberry-banana milkshake, and honestly a lot of regulars prefer it at that stage. Half-sweet is the single biggest improvement most people can make.

INGREDIENTS

What's Actually in the 7 Brew Banana Strawberry Smoothie?

Ice Cream Mix Sweetened dairy cream base used across all 7 Brew smoothies and shakes - the source of the Milk allergen, the thick soft-serve texture, and most of the fat and protein
Strawberry Puree Thick sweetened fruit puree with visible pulp - contributes the jammy tang, pink-red color, and a portion of the natural fruit sugar
Banana Flavoring Ripe-banana flavor concentrate rather than fresh fruit - 7 Brew does not stock whole bananas, so this is what supplies the mellow rounded sweetness
Ice Blended in to set the frozen consistency - ask for light ice for a thicker, more milkshake-like pour or extra ice for a firmer spoonable texture
Whipped Cream (optional) Standard topping unless declined - removing it saves roughly 50 to 80 calories and about 1g of sugar depending on size

Ingredients may vary by location. Always confirm with your barista.

First Time?

How to Order the Banana Strawberry Smoothie for the First Time

Start with a Small (16oz, $5.25, 350 calories) rather than a Medium. The 24oz Medium is a genuinely large volume of a very thick, very sweet drink, and first-timers routinely report not finishing it. A Small is enough to know whether you love it.

Order it half-sweet on the first try. Most people who describe the Banana Strawberry as too sweet had it standard. Half-sweet costs nothing extra, keeps the same texture, and lets you taste the strawberry puree instead of just sugar. If it turns out to be too mild for you, order standard next time - it is easy to add sweetness back, impossible to take it away mid-cup.

Set your expectations correctly before you order. This is a fruit-flavored milkshake, not a health smoothie. If you are hoping for something that tastes like a blender full of fresh berries and Greek yogurt, you will be disappointed. If you want a strawberry-banana dessert drink you can get from a drive-thru in four minutes, this is close to perfect.

Ask for a wide straw or a spoon-straw. Fresh out of the blender it is thick enough that a standard straw is a workout. And drink it within about 20 minutes - past that, the separation between the puree and the melted cream becomes noticeable and a quick swirl is needed.

Pro tip: Don't be afraid to ask your brewista for recommendations — they love helping first-timers!

Best Time to Enjoy

Afternoon is the sweet spot. Because it carries 0mg of caffeine, the Banana Strawberry Smoothie is one of the only 7 Brew drinks you can order at 6pm without wrecking your sleep - which makes it the default choice for evening drive-thru runs, post-practice pickups, and passenger-seat orders when the driver is getting a Cold Brew. Summer is its peak season. The thick frozen texture and 160g of sugar in a Large make it a legitimate meal replacement on a hot day, which is exactly how a lot of regulars treat it - a Medium at 540 calories is not far off a fast-food lunch in calorie terms.

I have tried basically every smoothie on the 7 Brew menu and I keep coming back to Banana Strawberry. It genuinely tastes like the strawberry banana milkshakes my grandma used to make, which I mean as the highest compliment. The ice cream mix makes it so much creamier than the Dutch Bros version down the street - theirs is more like a slushie, this is a legit milkshake. I get a Small half-sweet with no whip and it is perfect. My four year old gets the Kids size and it is the only drive-thru drink I feel fine about her having since there is zero caffeine in it.

Solid smoothie and my go-to when I am doing an evening run and do not want caffeine keeping me up. The strawberry puree tastes real, you can feel a little bit of the pulp, and the banana is not that fake chalky banana-runt flavor I was worried about. One warning though - I looked up the nutrition after the fact and a Large is 740 calories and 160 grams of sugar. That is a lot for a drink. Now I just order a Small half-sweet and it is honestly better that way anyway, more strawberry comes through. Docking one star only for how sweet the standard build is.

Priya Raghunathan3 months ago

It is well made for what it is, I just went in expecting the wrong thing. I wanted an actual fruit smoothie and this is much closer to a milkshake with strawberry in it. The banana leans a little candy-like to me rather than fresh, and by the bottom of the Medium the sweetness was getting heavy. I asked them to swap in almond milk instead of the ice cream mix on my second visit and that was a big improvement flavor-wise, though it came out noticeably thinner and icier. If you want creamy and dessert-like you will love it. If you want light and fruity, try the lemonades instead.

Copycat Recipe

How to Make the Banana Strawberry Smoothie at Home

5 minutes
Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 2/3 cup vanilla ice cream (Breyers Natural Vanilla or Tillamook Old Fashioned Vanilla both work well as ice cream mix stand-ins)
  • 1/2 cup frozen strawberries, or 3 tbsp sweetened strawberry puree such as Monin Strawberry Fruit Puree or Torani Puremade Strawberry Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Torani Banana Syrup or Monin Banana Syrup (use 2 tsp for a half-sweet version)
  • 3/4 cup ice
  • Optional: whipped cream to top
Instructions
1

Add the milk to the blender first so the blades catch - this prevents the puree from packing under the blade.

2

Add the ice cream, strawberry puree, and banana syrup on top of the milk.

3

Add the ice last. Blend on high for 30 to 40 seconds until completely smooth with no ice shards remaining.

4

Check the consistency. If it pours too easily, add 1/4 cup more ice and pulse 10 seconds. If it will not move, add 2 tbsp milk.

5

Pour into a 16oz cup, top with whipped cream if using, and serve with a wide straw immediately.

Lighter Version

Use sugar-free syrups and skip whipped cream to save 100-150 calories.

FAQ

Common Questions

How many calories are in a 7 Brew Banana Strawberry Smoothie?
A 7 Brew Banana Strawberry Smoothie contains 210 calories in the Kids 10oz size, 350 calories in the Small 16oz, 540 calories in the Medium 24oz, and 740 calories in the Large 32oz. The majority of those calories come from the dairy ice cream mix base and the sweetened strawberry puree rather than from fat, which is why fat stays low at just 2g to 7g while carbohydrates run 50g to 171g. To cut calories, order it half-sweet (drops a Medium to roughly 380 to 400 calories), substitute almond or oat milk for the ice cream mix (drops a Large to roughly 450 to 500 calories), skip the whipped cream (saves 50 to 80 calories), or simply size down from Medium to Small to save 190 calories.
Does the 7 Brew Banana Strawberry Smoothie have caffeine?
No. The 7 Brew Banana Strawberry Smoothie contains 0mg of caffeine in all four sizes - Kids, Small, Medium, and Large. It is built from banana flavoring, strawberry puree, ice cream mix, and ice, with no coffee, espresso, tea, or energy blend anywhere in the recipe. That makes it one of the safest picks on the menu for children and for anyone ordering in the evening. The only way to introduce caffeine is to add espresso shots, which adds 60mg per shot.
Are 7 Brew smoothies made with real fruit?
Partially. 7 Brew smoothies use fruit purees, so the Banana Strawberry does contain real strawberry puree with visible pulp - but there is no fresh whole banana or fresh whole strawberry going into the blender, and the banana component comes from flavoring rather than fruit. The base is a proprietary dairy ice cream mix, not yogurt or juice, which is why Milk is listed as an allergen on every 7 Brew smoothie. The accurate way to think about it is a fruit-flavored milkshake rather than a juice-bar smoothie. This is the biggest difference from Dutch Bros, whose smoothies are typically dairy-free by default and finish more tart and sorbet-like.
Can you get a 7 Brew Banana Strawberry Smoothie dairy-free or vegan?
You can get close, but not by ordering the standard drink. Ask the crew to substitute almond milk, oat milk, or coconut milk for the ice cream mix. That removes the dairy allergen and cuts a Large from 740 calories to roughly 450 to 500. Be aware the texture changes substantially - without the ice cream mix it blends thinner and icier, closer to a slush than a milkshake, with oat milk holding body better than almond. Also skip the whipped cream. Because 7 Brew blenders are shared equipment and the syrups and purees are not certified vegan, anyone with a severe dairy allergy should treat cross-contact as a real risk and confirm with the location.
How much sugar is in a 7 Brew Banana Strawberry Smoothie?
Sugar runs 47g in the Kids size, 75g in the Small, 118g in the Medium, and 160g in the Large. For context, the American Heart Association recommends no more than 25g of added sugar per day for women and 36g for men, so even the 10oz Kids size exceeds a full day of that guidance. Ordering half-sweet is the most effective single fix and brings a Medium down to roughly 65 to 75g. Note that sugar-free syrups are available at 7 Brew, but the strawberry puree itself is pre-sweetened and contains natural fruit sugar, so a truly zero-sugar version of this drink is not possible.
