About This Drink
Nightshade 7 Energy

The Nightshade is 7 Brew's darkest, most mysterious 7 Energy build - a caffeine-forward, dairy-free iced energy drink that layers lavender, pomegranate, and blue raspberry over the chain proprietary 7 Energy base. According to 7 Brew nutrition data, a Small (16oz) lands at 180 calories with 44g of sugar and 67mg of caffeine, a Medium (24oz) at 230 calories with 57g of sugar and 105mg of caffeine, and a Large (32oz) at 350 calories with 88g of sugar and 133mg of caffeine. Pricing runs $5.35 for the Kids 10oz, $6.85 Small, $7.95 Medium, and $9.45 Large.

7 Brew started as a single drive-thru in Rogers, Arkansas, and while the 7 Originals coffee lineup built the brand, the 7 Energy menu is what pulled in the non-coffee crowd. Instead of espresso or cold brew, 7 Energy drinks are built on a proprietary energy concentrate that gets mixed with flavor syrups and shaken over ice, or dropped in the blender if you want it slushie-style. There is no milk, no cream, and no coffee anywhere in a standard Nightshade, which is why the allergen listing for every size comes back as None.

What makes Nightshade genuinely different from the rest of the 7 Energy board is the lavender. Almost every other energy build on the menu is fruit-on-fruit - tropical, berry, citrus. Nightshade is the only one that leads with a floral note, and that lavender is what earns the drink its name along with its deep purple-to-inky-blue color. The pomegranate adds tart depth so the lavender does not read like perfume, and the blue raspberry brings the candy-sweet top note that most people actually taste first. Order it blended and the color turns into a moody violet-blue slush that has driven a lot of the drink TikTok attention. It is one of the few 7 Brew drinks that is both dairy-free by default and genuinely photogenic.

TASTE

What Does the 7 Brew Nightshade 7 Energy Taste Like?

The first thing that hits is not the lavender - it is the blue raspberry. The opening sip is bright, candy-sweet, and unmistakably blue-raspberry-slushie, the same flavor family as a blue freezer pop, with a light carbonated-feeling tingle from the energy base even though the drink is not fizzy in the soda sense. It is sweet up front, no hiding it, and the 44g to 88g of sugar depending on size shows up honestly.

Mid-sip is where the pomegranate takes over. It pulls the sweetness back with a tart, slightly puckery, wine-adjacent edge that keeps the drink from tasting one-dimensional. This is the layer that makes Nightshade feel more grown-up than a typical gas-station energy drink, and it is the reason the flavor does not get boring around ounce fifteen.

The finish is all lavender. It arrives late, floral and cool and faintly herbal, almost like the last note of an Earl Grey or a lavender shortbread cookie. Some people love it immediately. Others read it as soapy or perfumey on the first try - that is the single most common complaint about this drink, and it is a real one. Aroma-wise, the cup smells like lavender and berry candy before you even get the straw in.

Texture depends on your build. Iced, it is thin, crisp, and extremely drinkable, closer to a fruit soda without bubbles. Blended, it turns into a fine-grain violet slush that mutes the lavender by about a third and makes the whole thing taste rounder and more like a frozen berry lemonade.

INGREDIENTS

What's Actually in the 7 Brew Nightshade 7 Energy?

7 Energy Base Proprietary 7 Brew energy concentrate that replaces coffee entirely - supplies the caffeine, the tart backbone, and the very slight tingly bite on the tongue
Lavender Syrup Floral botanical syrup, roughly 1 to 2 pumps by size - the signature note that names the drink and shows up on the finish rather than the front
Pomegranate Syrup Tart red-fruit syrup that supplies the mid-sip acidity and the deep purple color when it meets the blue raspberry
Blue Raspberry Syrup Candy-sweet blue syrup, the dominant opening flavor and the reason the drink photographs as inky blue-violet
Ice Standard pebble-style ice for the iced version, or blended into a fine slush for the blended version which softens the lavender
No Dairy Component Unlike 7 Brew smoothies and shakes, no ice cream mix or milk is used - allergen listing for all sizes is None

First Time?

How to Order the Nightshade 7 Energy for the First Time

Order a Small (16oz) blended, half-sweet, your first time. Here is the reasoning: the Small at 180 calories and 44g sugar is half the sugar commitment of a Large, blending softens the lavender finish that trips up a lot of first-timers, and half-sweet lets you actually taste the pomegranate tartness instead of a wall of blue candy. At 67mg of caffeine, a Small is also roughly one cup of drip coffee, which is a sane place to start with an energy drink you have never had.

If you already know you like lavender - lavender lattes, London Fogs, lavender lemonade - skip all of that and get a Medium iced at full sweet. The iced version is where the floral note lives, and 105mg of caffeine in 24 ounces is a comfortable afternoon dose for most adults.

The one thing to know going in: lavender is a genuinely divisive flavor and roughly one in four people describe it as soapy. If you take a sip and get that, do not write off the drink. Ask for it again with no lavender and double pomegranate - that build is essentially a blue pomegranate energy drink and it is excellent on its own. Also worth asking for a splash of lemonade on the first order. It costs almost nothing in calories and it makes a 32oz Large drinkable to the bottom rather than cloying by the halfway point.

Pro tip: Don't be afraid to ask your brewista for recommendations — they love helping first-timers!

Best Time to Enjoy

Early afternoon is the sweet spot. With 67mg to 133mg of caffeine depending on size, the Nightshade is built for the 1pm to 3pm slump - enough of a lift to reset your focus without the 200mg-plus jolt of a 7 Brew cold brew. Since caffeine has a half-life of roughly five hours, a Medium at 105mg finished by 2pm leaves only about 26mg in your system by midnight, which most people sleep through fine. Skip it as a breakfast drink unless you are eating alongside it. There is 0g protein and 0g fat in every size, so a Large delivering 88g of sugar on an empty stomach is a spike-and-crash setup - that is by far the most common complaint people have about this drink, and it is a sugar issue rather than a caffeine issue. Half-sweet plus food solves it entirely.

I switched off canned energy drinks entirely because of this thing. Nightshade blended is my 2pm reset - the lavender on the finish is what sells it, it tastes like a lavender berry Italian ice and not like chemicals. I get a Medium half-sweet and it is still plenty sweet at that. My barista told me it is one of the top three energy orders at my location and I believe it.

Really good and the color alone is worth ordering once. Only knocking a star because a full-sweet Large is a lot - 88 grams of sugar hit me hard and I crashed around dinner. Now I get a Small with sugar-free blue raspberry and it is honestly better balanced. Also nice that there is no dairy in it so my lactose intolerant wife can actually drink it.

Danielle Ortega2 months ago

I wanted to love this because everyone online raves about it, but the lavender tastes like hand soap to me. I could not get past it iced. Tried it again blended and it was much more tolerable, so if you are lavender-sensitive go blended or just ask them to leave the lavender out. Caffeine kick was solid though, no complaints there.

How to Make the Nightshade 7 Energy at Home

5 minutes
Ingredients
  • 1 can (12oz) unflavored or berry sparkling energy drink, or 8oz Celsius Sparkling Wild Berry for the caffeine base
  • 0.5 oz (1 tbsp) Monin Lavender Syrup
  • 0.5 oz (1 tbsp) Torani Pomegranate Syrup
  • 0.75 oz (1.5 tbsp) Torani Blue Raspberry Syrup
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice (optional, balances the sweetness)
  • 1.5 cups pebble or crushed ice for the iced version, or 2 cups ice for blended
Instructions
1

Add the lavender, pomegranate, and blue raspberry syrups to the bottom of a 24oz cup or shaker and swirl to combine - doing this before the liquid keeps the lavender from streaking.

2

Add the lemon juice if using, then pour in the chilled energy base slowly down the side of the cup to preserve any carbonation.

3

For iced: fill with pebble ice and stir gently 5 to 6 times. Do not over-stir or you will flatten the drink.

4

For blended: combine everything with 2 cups of ice in a blender and pulse on high for 20 to 25 seconds until it reaches a fine slush, not a smoothie. Stop before it liquefies.

5

Taste and adjust - if the lavender reads soapy to you, cut it to 1 tsp and add another 0.25 oz of blue raspberry instead.

Lighter Version

Use sugar-free syrups and skip whipped cream to save 100-150 calories.

FAQ

Common Questions

How much caffeine is in a 7 Brew Nightshade 7 Energy?
Per 7 Brew nutrition data, the Nightshade contains 67mg of caffeine in a Small (16oz), 105mg in a Medium (24oz), and 133mg in a Large (32oz). That comes entirely from the proprietary 7 Energy base, not from espresso or cold brew. For reference, a Medium Nightshade at 105mg has less caffeine than a Medium 7 Brew cold brew, which can exceed 200mg. Because pump counts and store-level builds vary, some third-party estimates for 7 Energy run higher, up to roughly 150mg to 300mg per size, so if you are caffeine-sensitive start with a Small and see how it sits.
How many calories are in a 7 Brew Nightshade?
A Small (16oz) Nightshade has 180 calories, a Medium (24oz) has 230 calories, and a Large (32oz) has 350 calories. There is 0g of fat and 0g of protein in every size because there is no dairy in the drink, so essentially all calories come from the sugar in the lavender, pomegranate, and blue raspberry syrups plus the energy base. Sugar runs 44g in a Small, 57g in a Medium, and 88g in a Large. Ordering half-sweet cuts calories by roughly 40 to 50 percent, and asking for sugar-free syrups where available drops it further.
What flavors are in the 7 Brew Nightshade?
Nightshade combines lavender, pomegranate, and blue raspberry over the 7 Energy base. Blue raspberry is the loudest note and hits first, pomegranate provides the tart mid-sip depth, and lavender is the floral finish that gives the drink its name and its dark purple-blue color. It is the only major 7 Energy build on the menu that leads with a floral botanical flavor rather than pure fruit, which is why it is polarizing - people who like lavender lattes and Earl Grey usually love it.
Is the 7 Brew Nightshade dairy free and vegan?
Yes, as ordered standard. The allergen listing for the Small, Medium, and Large all come back as None, with 0g fat and 0g protein, because 7 Energy drinks are built on an energy concentrate plus fruit and botanical syrups over ice - no milk, no cream, and no ice cream mix like 7 Brew smoothies and shakes use. It is one of the safest picks on the entire 7 Brew menu for lactose intolerance or a plant-based diet. If you add cream, a splash of milk, or a whipped topping, that changes. It is not keto friendly at 46g to 92g of carbs per size unless you order it fully sugar-free.
Should I get the Nightshade iced or blended?
Get it blended if you are unsure about lavender. The blended version turns into a fine violet slush and the frozen texture mutes the floral finish by a noticeable margin, making the drink taste more like a berry frozen lemonade. Get it iced if you actually want to taste the lavender clearly and prefer a thinner, more chuggable drink over 24 or 32 ounces. Calories and sugar are the same either way - 180 to 350 calories depending on size - so the choice is purely texture and how much floral character you want.
