About This Drink
Orange Sherbet Shake

The 7 Brew Orange Sherbet Shake is a blended, caffeine-free dessert drink that layers orange and strawberry flavor over vanilla and 7 Brew proprietary ice cream mix, then gets finished with a crown of whipped cream. It is built to taste like the orange-and-pink swirl section of a scoop of rainbow sherbet, only thicker and creamier. A Medium (24oz) lands at 490 calories, 82g carbs, 74g sugar, 20g fat, 11g protein, and 0mg caffeine. Pricing runs $4.00 for the 10oz Kids, $5.50 for the 16oz Small, $6.50 for the 24oz Medium, and $7.50 for the 32oz Large.

Here is the part most people get wrong: 7 Brew shakes are not made by scooping hard ice cream into a blender. Every shake on the menu starts with the same proprietary dairy-based ice cream mix, a thick, cold, vanilla-forward cream that gets blended with ice and flavor syrups to order. That is why this drink lists Milk as its only allergen and why the texture sits somewhere between a soft-serve shake and a frozen custard drink rather than a heavy, spoon-required diner malt. You can drink it through a straw without a jaw workout, which is exactly why it survives the drive-thru format at a chain that operates with zero indoor seating.

The Orange Sherbet Shake belongs to 7 Brew rotating featured lineup rather than the permanent 7 Originals, which means it tends to surface in spring and summer promotional runs and then disappear for a stretch. What separates it from a plain orange creamsicle drink is the strawberry component. That small addition pushes the flavor away from a one-note Dreamsicle and toward genuine rainbow sherbet territory, where citrus brightness and berry sweetness overlap. Ask any 7 Brew crew member and they will tell you it is one of the easiest featured drinks to upsell to kids and to adults who claim they do not like coffee.

Information for Orange Sherbet Shake

Confirmed 0mg in all four sizes. No espresso, coffee, tea, or energy blend in the base recipe.
The ice cream mix base and the whipped cream topping are both dairy. Milk is the only listed allergen. Not suitable for a milk allergy even with substitutions, due to shared blender contact.
Contains no meat or gelatin. Safe for lacto-vegetarians as written.
Requires swapping the ice cream mix for oat, almond, or coconut milk and dropping the whipped cream. The result is a frozen orange slush rather than a shake.
Nothing in the base formulation contains wheat, but 7 Brew does not certify gluten-free preparation. Ask your location if you are celiac.
No nut ingredients in the standard build, but hazelnut and almond syrups plus almond milk are handled at the same station. Avoid if you have a severe tree nut allergy.
A Medium carries 82g carbs and 74g sugar. Even with sugar-free vanilla and half-sweet syrups, the ice cream mix keeps the carb count far above keto range.
The 10oz Kids size at $4.00, 190 calories, 28g sugar, and 0mg caffeine is one of the most kid-appropriate orders on the entire 7 Brew menu.
Zero caffeine makes it compatible with the commonly cited 200mg daily caffeine limit. It is high in sugar, so treat it as a dessert rather than a hydration drink.

TASTE

What Does the 7 Brew Orange Sherbet Shake Taste Like?

The aroma hits before the first sip, and it is unmistakably orange candy - closer to an orange push-up pop than to fresh-squeezed juice. Bring the straw up and the first sip is dominated by cold cream. The ice cream mix coats your tongue first, which softens the citrus and keeps it from reading as sour or acidic the way an orange soda or a lemonade would.

Mid-sip is where the layering shows up. The orange syrup blooms into a bright, slightly tangy candied-citrus note, and then the strawberry arrives underneath it with a rounder, jammier sweetness. Together they read almost exactly like the melted edge of a rainbow sherbet scoop. The vanilla is not a headline flavor here, it is structural, tying the citrus and berry together so neither one spikes.

The finish is the most polarizing part. Because there is no coffee, no cocoa, and no salt to balance it, the sweetness sits on your palate for a while - expect a lingering orange-cream coating similar to what you get after a creamsicle. Texture-wise, the blend is smooth with only the faintest ice grain, thick enough to hold the whipped cream on top for the first several minutes but thin enough to sip continuously. Around the 15-minute mark a Large begins to separate, with a slightly icier layer settling toward the bottom, so give it a shake or a stir if you are a slow drinker.

INGREDIENTS

What's Actually in the 7 Brew Orange Sherbet Shake?

Ice Cream Mix A dairy-based, vanilla-forward soft-serve style mix that 7 Brew uses as the base for every shake. It is the sole reason Milk appears as an allergen and the reason the texture is creamy rather than icy.
Orange Flavor Syrup A sweet candied-citrus syrup, closer to an orange cream soda profile than to fresh juice. This is the dominant flavor note and the driver of the sherbet identity.
Strawberry Flavor A jammy red-berry component layered under the orange. It is what makes the drink read as rainbow sherbet instead of a plain orange creamsicle.
Vanilla Syrup Used as a bridging sweetener rather than a headline flavor. It rounds off the citrus tang so the orange never tastes sharp or artificial on the finish.
Ice Blended in to set the thickness. Ask for less ice for a denser, more shake-like pour or extra ice for a thinner, more slushy consistency.
Whipped Cream A standard topping on featured shakes, adding roughly 50-80 calories depending on the pour size. Removing it is the fastest single calorie cut available.

Ingredients may vary by location. Always confirm with your barista.

First Time?

How to Order the Orange Sherbet Shake for the First Time

Start with a Small (16oz, $5.50, 310 calories). This drink is significantly sweeter than a coffee-based 7 Brew order because there is nothing bitter to offset it, and a Medium at 74g of sugar can overwhelm a first-timer. If you already know you love creamsicles, rainbow sherbet, or Orange Julius style drinks, jump straight to the Medium.

Say it at the speaker like this: "Can I get a Small Orange Sherbet Shake, half-sweet on the syrups, with whipped cream." The half-sweet request is the single best move for a first order - it keeps the orange and strawberry recognizable while dropping roughly half the added syrup sugar, and it lets the vanilla ice cream mix come forward.

Two expectation-setters. First, this is a dessert, not a smoothie, and not a fruit drink - there is no fresh orange or fresh strawberry in it, only purees and flavor syrups over a dairy base. Second, it will not wake you up. At 0mg caffeine in every size, this is the drink you order at 8pm, not the one you order to survive a 6am shift.

Pro tip: Don't be afraid to ask your brewista for recommendations — they love helping first-timers!

How to get a drink similar to the Orange Sherbet Shake at other coffee chains

Similar flavored espresso drink
How to Order

Order the closest equivalent and ask for matching syrups.

Key Difference

About 45 percent. You get the creamy blended base and the strawberry note, but the defining orange sherbet character is simply not available at Starbucks. Do not expect this to scratch the same itch.

Similar flavored drink
How to Order

Order the closest equivalent and ask for matching syrups.

Key Difference

About 85 percent. The Frost base is comparably thick and dairy-forward. The main difference is that Dutch Bros orange syrup leans slightly more tangy and less candy-sweet, so the strawberry pump does more of the sherbet work.

7 Brew Large 32oz: $7.50 ($0.23 per oz) vs Starbucks Venti 24oz Strawberry Creme Frappuccino: around $6.45 ($0.27 per oz). You pay $1.05 more at 7 Brew but receive 8 additional ounces, making 7 Brew the better per-ounce value by about 15 percent.

Best Time to Enjoy

This is a warm-weather afternoon drink. The Orange Sherbet Shake shines between roughly 2pm and 8pm on a hot day, when you want something cold and sweet but do not want the caffeine load of a Cold Brew (156-335mg) or a 7 Energy (150-300mg) messing with your sleep. Because it is completely caffeine-free, it is also one of the few 7 Brew orders that works as a genuine after-dinner dessert run. A Kids size at 190 calories is a reasonable evening treat, while a Large at 660 calories and 102g of sugar functions more like a full dessert than a beverage - treat it accordingly if you have already eaten.

I have been chasing this flavor since I was a kid eating rainbow sherbet out of the carton and this is the closest anything has ever come. The orange hits first and then there is this strawberry thing underneath that makes it taste like an actual sherbet swirl instead of a creamsicle. I get a Medium half-sweet every single time because full sweet is a lot, and half-sweet is honestly perfect. My eight year old gets the Kids size and it is the only drive-thru order that has never once ended in a meltdown.

Really good hot-weather drink and I like that it has zero caffeine so I can grab one after dinner without staring at the ceiling at midnight. Only knock is that mine started separating about 15 minutes into the drive home and the bottom third got a little icy. Gave it a stir and it was fine. Also the Large is enormous - 660 calories is dessert territory, so I stick to the Small now and it still scratches the itch.

Priya Raghunathan3 months ago

It tastes exactly like it is supposed to taste, so this is a me problem more than a drink problem. I just found it too sweet - the finish coated my mouth in orange candy for a solid twenty minutes and I ended up not finishing the Medium. If you like syrupy dessert drinks you will love it. I went back and tried it with sugar-free vanilla and half-sweet orange, which was much better balanced, but at that point I would rather just get a Brunette. Great kid drink though.

How to Make the Orange Sherbet Shake at Home

5 minutes
Ingredients
  • 1 cup (about 2 generous scoops) full-fat vanilla ice cream, softened 5 minutes on the counter
  • 1/3 cup orange sherbet (Blue Bell or Kroger brand both work)
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 tbsp (about 2 pumps) Torani Orange Syrup
  • 2 tsp (about 1 pump) Torani Strawberry Syrup
  • 1 tsp (half pump) Monin Vanilla Syrup
  • 3/4 cup ice cubes
  • Whipped cream for topping
  • Optional: 1 tsp orange zest for aroma
Instructions
1

Chill your blender jar and your serving cup in the freezer for 10 minutes. Cold glass keeps the shake from separating on you, which is the number one failure point of homemade versions.

2

Add the whole milk first, then the Torani Orange, Torani Strawberry, and Monin Vanilla syrups. Pulse twice to combine the liquids so the syrups do not stick to the blades.

3

Add the softened vanilla ice cream and the orange sherbet on top of the liquid, then the ice last.

4

Blend on high for 20 to 25 seconds only. Over-blending melts the fat and produces a thin, foamy drink instead of a shake. You want it thick enough that the blender vortex barely closes.

5

Pour into the chilled cup, top with whipped cream, and dust with orange zest if using. Serve immediately with a wide straw.

Lighter Version

Use sugar-free syrups and skip whipped cream to save 100-150 calories.

FAQ

Common Questions

How many calories are in a 7 Brew Orange Sherbet Shake?
The 7 Brew Orange Sherbet Shake ranges from 190 calories for the 10oz Kids size to 660 calories for the 32oz Large. The 16oz Small has 310 calories and the popular 24oz Medium has 490 calories. Nearly all of those calories come from two sources: the dairy-based ice cream mix, which supplies the fat and protein, and the orange, strawberry, and vanilla syrups, which supply the sugar. A Medium carries 82g carbs, 74g sugar, 20g fat, and 11g protein. To reduce it, skip the whipped cream (saves 50-80 calories), order half-sweet (saves 80-120 calories), or simply size down from Large to Small, which cuts 350 calories.
Does the 7 Brew Orange Sherbet Shake have caffeine?
No. The Orange Sherbet Shake contains 0mg of caffeine in every size, including Kids, Small, Medium, and Large. There is no espresso, coffee, tea, or energy blend in the recipe - it is built entirely from the ice cream mix plus orange, strawberry, and vanilla flavoring. That makes it one of the safest 7 Brew orders for kids, pregnant customers who are limiting caffeine, and anyone ordering after 6pm. If you do want caffeine in it, adding a single shot of espresso brings in 60mg.
Is the 7 Brew Orange Sherbet Shake made with real orange sherbet or real fruit?
No. Despite the name, there is no scooped sherbet and no fresh fruit in it. Every 7 Brew shake is made by blending their proprietary dairy-based ice cream mix with ice and flavor syrups to order, so the orange and strawberry notes come from flavoring rather than from juiced oranges or whole strawberries. This is also why the drink lists Milk as its only allergen and why the texture is smooth and creamy rather than icy like true sherbet. If you want a fruit-puree-forward drink instead, look at the 7 Brew smoothie lineup, which uses fruit purees blended with the same ice cream mix.
What size 7 Brew Orange Sherbet Shake should I order and what does it cost?
Pricing is $4.00 for the 10oz Kids, $5.50 for the 16oz Small, $6.50 for the 24oz Medium, and $7.50 for the 32oz Large. On a per-ounce basis the Large is the best value at about $0.23 per ounce versus $0.34 per ounce for the Small, but the Large also carries 660 calories and 102g of sugar, which is more dessert than most people want in one sitting. For a first order or a solo treat, the Small at 310 calories is the sweet spot. For sharing or a genuine dessert replacement, the Medium at $6.50 is the most ordered size.
Can you get the 7 Brew Orange Sherbet Shake dairy-free or vegan?
Not in its standard form. The ice cream mix base is dairy, so the drink is not dairy-free, not vegan, and lists Milk as an allergen in all four sizes. The workaround is to ask the crew to substitute almond, oat, or coconut milk for the ice cream mix and blend it with the orange, strawberry, and vanilla flavoring. That removes the dairy and cuts roughly 150-200 calories from a Medium, but it fundamentally changes the drink - you get a thinner frozen orange slush instead of a thick shake. Also skip the whipped cream, which is dairy-based. Confirm with your specific location, since blender cross-contact is possible if you have a severe milk allergy.
